Behind the Gallery Walls
We build walls only to break them down.
Kumiko Toft and Brooke Gerson lead our One Studio team. With backgrounds in design and art business they have built a platform made by artists, for artists. Working closely with art entrepreneurs, tech industry leaders, and a socio-cultural anthropologist, we are reimagining the process of discovering, selling, and buying art.
By making the art world more accessible, we can bring the art and artists we love into focus.
“My vision for One Studio is to create a place where everyone can come and experience a strong emotional connection to art."
As a RISD-trained Interaction Designer, Kumiko brings over 15 years of product design experience to One Studio. In the past she worked as a design leader for companies such as Intuit, Sony, Yahoo, and recently Google-acquired: Timeful. She has guided many products to market including TVs, entertainment software, mobile accounting solutions, and SAS productivity apps, but her true passion is art.
She started One Studio as a solution to her own frustrations. There was an absence of meaningful artwork online, and no platform for artists to interact and engage with one another. With her background the solution seemed obvious: a single platform, for every circle of the art world to connect and create—and so One Studio was born.
"With One Studio, I am most excited about being at the forefront of the next generation of art business and helping as many artists as possible get international exposure."
As a seasoned professional, Brooke has an extensive knowledge of the art business. Previously, she managed a blue chip gallery, Ace Gallery, and co-founded Moskowitz Gallery in Los Angeles, where she launched the careers of many emerging and mid-career artists. In the past, she also worked alongside Art Miami’s partner, Nick Korniloff to produce the second edition of Art Silicon Valley/San Francisco.
She is a trained artist as well—with projects like Klastes.com, which facilitates collaboration between artists and designers. Her experiences have helped her recognize the difficulties contemporary artists often face, especially when managing a career. One Studio was designed with that in mind.
